What's in a Name?

At the 2006 gathering we hoped that PAPA festival would have the same thirst for God, and the same outrage at poverty and apathy that infected us and our world as the original gathering in 1997.

This thirst and desire to change were present- but some things have evolved. In the past, much of the zeal that has driven our vision has been marked by what we are against (People AGAINST Poverty and Apathy and the student group at Eastern was called Youth AGAINST Complacency and Homelessness Today). Now, we are also interested in identifying what we are FOR. PAPA Fest is becoming a place of discovering and building alternative ways of living and reimagining the world – not just protesting, but protestifying something new.

As such… part of this year’s festival will be creating a new acronym together that respects this history and reflects this evolution… for the next convergence. It will likely still be the P.A.P.A Festival, but it may stand for something a little different, so get your gears moving.
